Your opportunity
This role will offer interesting and varied work in connection with the identification and management of a wide range of tax matters across JHI’s public and private market product offering. You will provide assistance in managing various product tax risks and advising the wider business on tax matters affecting the client population and product ranges. In particular, the candidate will:
- Assist in the assessment of tax related risks and obligations which arise during the launch, life and closure of any JHI fund product; and which may arise at one or more levels of the product model, i.e. fund, investor and asset levels
- Partner with the various impacted JHI business areas to ensure that any identified tax related risks are appropriately managed throughout the business in a manner consistent with JHI Group’s tax risk policy and assist with the development of associated product tax related processes, procedures and policies
- Assist the Head of Product Tax with the provision of tax technical input, tax risk considerations and sign off for product launch and change initiatives, new distribution markets, new investments markets and new asset types
- Provide technical support in relation to JHI’s FATCA/CRS compliance and obligations at product and Group level
- Act as a point of contact for tax technical questions arising within the business concerning the product range
- Provide technical support as required to the various business areas (e.g. operations teams) where controls and processes are in place to identify and manage applicable tax risks and obligations in relation to the products
- Stay abreast of tax related developments in market practice and regulations that can impact JHI's products and clients and where appropriate provide updates to relevant stakeholders on the tax implications on the products of such developments
- Identify opportunities and recommend steps to improve or maintain tax efficiency of existing product range and ensure that products are structured in a tax efficient manner to avoid adverse and unexpected tax impacts on fund performance
- Identify tax recovery opportunities and provide support to operations teams to pursue these (with assistance from advisers as needed)
- Review tax provisions in product documentation, investment management agreements, portfolio instrument agreements and investor side letter agreements
- Ensure tax risks arising from the interaction of the funds and the JHI Group entities are identified and managed, and provide assistance as required on other tax issues impacting the Group (e.g. in relation to seed investments, FATCA, CRS and DAC 6)
- Represent JHI at industry peer group meetings and assist in lobbying activities and responding to broader tax developments and changes
- Carry out other duties as assigned

Must have skills
- A law degree / accountancy / tax qualification
- 2-3 years’ experience of working with product or investment tax issues in a financial services environment
- Able to communicate complex tax issues clearly and concisely in a manner targeted at a wide range of different audiences
- Able to perform effectively in a fast paced environmentStrong communication and presentation skills (both written and verbal)
- Proactive, self-motivated with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to develop and maintain an in-depth commercial awareness of the products offered within the JHI Group
- Analytical with strong Excel skills
- Independent, self-starter who enjoys managing and analysing different streams of activity
- Able to adapt to change and a natural drive towards continuous improvement
Nice to have skills
- Good knowledge of taxation of investment funds/products under the tax laws of the UK and overseas countries
